As Software Development Engineer II on the Businesses Analytics and Data Science (BADS) team you take on problems in the robotized fulfillment and transportation space that are ambiguous and require significant technical expertise. Your work will center on building the infrastructure required to guide a managed foundational model service. Specifically, you will help Amazon Robotics’ (AR) Global Robotics Delivery (GRD) organization extract efficiencies by productizing and managing a robust set of machine learning models, with a focus on foundational models. Your solutions will be customer facing and built to facilitate simplified and/or automated problem detection and remediation for engineers and operations partners across Amazon’s vast network of fulfillment and transportation centers. You will work closely with other SDEs, applied scientists, data scientists, data engineers, in-field operations teams, system engineers, and product managers to propose, develop, and productize solutions will have a direct impact on AR’s ability to assist sites and sites’ own ability to meet performance targets.

A successful candidate will possess a combination of technical, problem solving, analytical, and communications skills required to build solutions that enable rapid model iteration for BADS scientists and contribute to optimize and solve performance problems across AR’s different solutions.

Our ideal candidate has the experience with LLMs and/or related foundational models required to accelerate our plans to provide efficient, high-quality guidance to our customers. They possess exceptional technical expertise and is comfortable guiding medium to large sized software development projects from conception to production.


Key job responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, efficient, and robust code for a managed foundational model service
- Contribute to core platform develpment, including APIs, client-facing tools, and appliction security
- Work with product management, partner teams, and developers to solve end-user needs
- Translate end-user requirements into technical specifications
- Contribute to system architecture with a focus on strategy, scalability, reliability, and security
- Develop comprehensive testing strategies to ensure the reliability and robustness of LLM/FM services

You will be empowered to find and solve the problems our customers are facing.

We act as a force-multiplier for our direct support teams, enabling informed decision-making to manage the AR system as efficiently as possible.

About the team
Amazon Robotics is seeking uniquely talented and motivated Software Development Engineer to join our Automation Integration Technologies (AIT) Businesses Analytics and Data Science (BADS) Generative AI Platform Team. The team focuses on improving the supportability of the Amazon Robotics (AR) solutions through automation, with the explicit goal of simplifying issue resolution for our global network of fulfillment and transportation sites. We act as a force-multiplier for our direct Support teams, providing them real time diagnostics and system insights to help them manage the AR system as efficiently as possible.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Knowledge of foundational models and supporting AWS infrastructure
- Experience with AWS' Cloud Development Kit (CDK)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
